Makro is offering The Makro Cadetship Programme where talented young leaders are given the opportunity to study towards a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree with one of South Africa’s leading Universities while gaining essential workplace experience by working at one of our stores.
The programme started in 2003 and has produced a number of successful managers for our business, see some success stories below. Through the programme successful applicants are offered the opportunity to build knowledge and skills, while on the programme the learners will be provided with mentoring and coaching from leaders within the business and academic support such as payment of tuition, textbooks and stationery. Mamello Motloung - ETD Practitioner After matriculating I decided to join the Cadetship Programme and little did I know where I would be today. Through the support of the staff and the management team at the stores I completed my degree and graduated on my birthday! This was so great. As part of my role I now have the opportunity to work with the team that manages the Cadetship Programme…who would have imagined. Pontso Mashifane - Change Analyst I matriculated in 2005 and joining the cadetship in 2006 gave me a great head-start for my career. I got the opportunity to be mentored by various managers in Makro and learnt so much from them. Rotating in the various departments gave me an in-depth understating for our versatile, exciting business! Being appointed as change Analyst after completing my degree was a huge blessing for me as it has given me the opportunity to apply my skills at a more strategic level of our business I wouldn’t have it other way!
