Even during these uncertain times in the country, it is Makro’s mission to help our customers shop safely and save money so they can live better and run better businesses. All stores will be trading as per the regular operating hours and all products will be available for purchase, in compliance with government regulations.
Deliveries on all orders
Makro is pleased to announce it’s partnership with delivery service, OneCart, with effect from 1 June 2020. The partnership will allow customers greater access to Makro’s wide range of groceries & liquor, providing its customers with another convenient way to shop.
This service is available on the OneCart website, servicing all Makro stores.
Alternative delivery methods such as Pick-up lockers, click and collect and delivery of large or fragile (non-food) purchases, are also available through Makro.
Safe Delivery Adherence.
The drivers will at all times have a hand sanitizer or latex gloves and a face mask. No physical contact will be made between the driver and the customer, and a safe social distance will be complied with at all times. Handheld device will be used to confirm delivery, and the driver will sign on your behalf if you consent to it.
Safe Delivery Tips for customers.
When receiving an order we encourage customers to comply with the following:
- Sanitize your hands or wash with soap and water for 20 seconds;
- Wear a face mask;
- Practice a safe social distance;
- Unbox goods and safely discard of the packaging
- Disinfect your goods
In-store safe shopping.
Makro remains committed to the fight against the spread of Covid-19. The health and safety of all our customers and staff is our top priority.
With adherence to Covid-19 preventative measures, all Makro stores have a hand sanitizer at entrance, exits and high touch point areas throughout the store. Increased cleaning staff, visor mask for staff, trolley wipes and safe social distancing indicators on the floor (floor decals).
Limited number of shoppers in the store.
In the interest of you and your health, we have limited the number of shoppers at our stores beginning March 21, 2020. This is in line with the ideals of social distancing in order to reduce the spread of the virus. Please look out for our posters at stores and floor decals that highlight effective social distancing methods to be practiced while shopping.
Price Controls on essential goods.
Makro is committed to ensuring that prices on essentials will not be hiked in accordance with the regulations set out in the Disaster Management Act.

Gift of the Givers (GOTG)
These are challenging times and we believe that we have a responsibility to play a constructive role in supporting local disaster relief teams as they work to contain the virus. Massmart will be providing personal hygiene products, household cleaning products, bottled water, foldable desks / chairs and Jojo tanks amongst other necessities to GOTG to support pre-triage facilities at key state run hospitals, specifically Chris Hani Baragwanath, Raheema Moosa and Helen Joseph. “Extend the rainbow of hope throughout our nation. Lend a hand to a person in need and challenge friends to do the same”. This internal campaign is aimed at encouraging staff to play a role by means of a donation which will go a long way in assisting 1000 families impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our call centre staff have been reduced as we observe social spacing in the offices, this may lead to longer waiting times. Customer are encouraged to make use of the WhatsApp chatbot on 0860 300 999 for frequently asked questions, directions to your nearest store or for your card number. We will have dedicated teams working remotely who will continue to service emails, website and queries through our social media pages.
