What do I need to shop online?

Not much at all. Like everything at Makro, we’ve kept things really simple:

  1. You need to be 18 years or older and have a valid email address.
  2. If you already have a Makro Card, we’ll verify your details and have you shopping in no time at all. If you don’t have a Makro Card, don’t worry, we’ll generate a number for you.
  3. Let us know if you’re registering as a business or an individual so that we can provide you with the most relevant deals and information.

I am an existing Makro customer, can I shop online?

Absolutely! Simply verify your details and we’ll have you registered in a flash.

I know I have a Makro Card, but I’ve lost it.

We’ll be able to track down your card number by asking you to verify your details and you’ll be shopping online in no time. If you have any problems at all, please give us a call on either 0860 300 999 or 0860 600 999.

What are the requirements for a password?

Makro attempts to make your online shopping experience as secure as possible. Passwords must contain characters from all three of the following categories:

  1. English upper case characters (A - Z);
  2. English lower case characters (a - z); and
  3. Base 10 digits (0 - 9).

1.Please note that the password can contain any of the following punctuation or special characters: !@$%&*
1. Passwords must consist of at least 8 characters. Passwords containing 13 or more characters are often stronger.
1.Passwords must not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name.

I’ve registered online, but can’t remember my password.

To keep things simple, we never change your password without you requesting it. If you have forgotten it for whatever reason, simply click the “Forgot your password?” link on the Welcome page and we’ll get you back up and running right away.

How do I reset my password?

There is a "Forgot Your Password" link on the login page. You will be prompted to enter an email address to send a password reset email which will allow you to reset your password. Please make sure that you enter the email address you registered with. If your email address has changed, please contact us on 0860 300 999 so that we can keep our records up to date.

Will my password expire?

Nope, your password will never expire, but can be changed at any time as we’ve explained above.

What is an icon?

An icon is a pictogram or graphic image that is displayed on your screen which helps you navigate through the website swiftly. They’re basically quick links to help us get you to where you want to be as quickly as possible. Icons can also display symbols indicating features as a short reference.

What is Thawte Security?

Thawte Security is a Certificate Authority that essentially secures the Makro website by validating security certificates with our affiliates to ensure that our connection both to and from are secure at all times. As you know, just as in our stores, we take security on our website very seriously.

I have multiple Makro Cards and one email address, can I use this email address to register all of them for online shopping?

Unfortunately not. Our online shop currently only allows one Makro Card to be associated with one email address at a time.

Is the Makro Online website compatible with smart devices?

We’ve put in a lot of effort to ensure that our website is designed to be used across current mainstream mobile devices, such as tablets (e.g. Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab) or mobile phones (e.g. Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Huawei or Blackberry Q10). If our website doesn’t look right on the device that you’re using, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to sort it out.

Is online shopping safe?

At Makro, we take security very seriously, in our stores and especially online. Rest assured that we’ve taken every precaution, using the latest security technology to ensure your personal details are safe and secure with us. All sensitive information you provide is encrypted using industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer technology, and we partner with a leading South African payment processor. We also insist that all credit card payments use 3D Secure processes (such as MasterCard’s SecureCode and Verified by Visa) so you will be prompted for a one-time PIN when purchasing to prevent you from fraudulent transactions. In short, this means that we’ve done everything we can to ensure that your details are always safe and secure.

What is an online exclusive?

A product that is marked “online exclusive” can only be bought online – this means you won’t find stock of this specific product in our stores. Online exclusive products can only be delivered via a courier, and not collected in-store or be sent to a locker. They also may require an extended delivery time frame.

What is the Makro Marketplace?

In order to give our customers even more variety when shopping online, we have been working to extend our range of online exclusive products. To do this, we have partnered with trusted Third Party Sellers who have now made their products available to shop online through the Makro Marketplace.

Does Makro share my payment details with the Makro Marketplace?

Makro manages all of your payments and accounts as well as any returns, so you can still expect the great value and absolute peace of mind you have become accustomed to when shopping at Do not forget to check back regularly to see what new products we have added on The process of ordering off the Makro Marketplace is easy and you can be confident that there is no difference in ordering a product fulfilled by Makro or a Third Party Seller.

How can I see how much stock is available on the website?

Our website can provide an estimation of stock availability for delivery, collection or in-store, based on the previous day’s closing stock. Before you have selected your fulfilment choice, the site looks at your region (determined by your IP address), however only once we have the exact details of the fulfilment location, can we confirm the stock availability. We do our best to source stock even if it is low, but there may be cases where we will need to contact you as this may lead to extended lead times. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our business, we cannot guarantee the stock indicated on the site is in-store. However if you want to confirm the quantity available, it’s best to contact us on 0860 409 999 or your closest store. (Please note that, as a rule, we do not reserve stock).

Can you guarantee stock?

As we are competitively priced and our stock sells on demand, we cannot guarantee stock. However we will try our best to source the items for you. We will be in contact with you should we encounter any problems with stock.

What products are available online?

Where possible, our general merchandise and liquor range is available for purchasing online. Currently, the following exceptions do apply:


  • Trailers, due to their licensing requirements
  • Hazardous products, such as pool chemicals and liquid petroleum products
  • Clothing
  • Our food range can be browsed, but is unfortunately not available for online purchase at this stage.
  • You’ll notice that our range is growing all the time and now you have thousands more products to choose from in the Computer and Electronics categories.

How much liquor can I buy online?

We have no limitations on liquor purchases. However, any purchase over 150 litres requires a valid liquor licence. If you are purchasing in your private capacity, you will need to provide us with written approval from the CEO of the Liquor Board.
